Camprofile gaskets

Camprofile gaskets, also known as cam groove gaskets or serrated gaskets, are a type of metallic gasket designed for high-pressure and high-temperature applications. They consist of a metal core with concentric serrations on both sides, typically made of stainless steel, surrounded by a soft sealing material such as graphite or PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene).

The metal core of a camprofile gasket is usually manufactured with a specific profile, often resembling a series of concentric grooves or waves, which give the gasket its name. These profiles create multiple sealing points, enhancing the gasket’s ability to maintain a tight seal even under extreme conditions.

The soft sealing material surrounding the metal core provides additional resilience and flexibility, allowing the gasket to conform to irregularities in flange surfaces and providing a reliable seal. Common soft sealing materials used in camprofile gaskets include graphite, PTFE, and various elastomers.

Camprofile gaskets are commonly used in industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, petrochemical, and power generation, where sealing performance is critical and operating conditions are demanding. They are particularly well-suited for applications involving high pressures, high temperatures, and corrosive fluids.

One of the key advantages of camprofile gaskets is their ability to withstand extreme operating conditions while maintaining a reliable seal. The serrated metal core provides excellent mechanical strength, while the soft sealing material ensures effective sealing even under uneven flange surfaces or fluctuations in temperature and pressure.

However, like any gasket type, proper installation and selection of the appropriate materials are essential to ensure optimal performance and prevent leaks. Additionally, camprofile gaskets may require more precise alignment during installation compared to some other gasket types due to their design, so careful attention to installation procedures is necessary.
